TO be honest i don't have a clear answer for you. You either feel a connection to an animal simply by seeing it or a picture of it. Or you do a spirit journey. I fall in the first category and I never even tried a spirit journey so I'll post a how to guide for that.
Now for the first category you may find it useful to look through some pictures on the internet of different animals and species. If you feel a connection to say Cats then start looking through those types of pictures till you feel the connection between the animal and you. Don't be frightened and don't get discouraged. The animal is there waiting for you. Let it guide your path. Let it help you discover yourself.
